Operation Shield mock drill tonight in Malerkotla: District-wide blackout from 8 pm to 8:30 pm
Residents urged not to panic; this is only a preparedness exercise

Malerkotla (Punjab), May 31, 2025: To enhance emergency preparedness, the Malerkotla district administration will conduct the second phase of “Operation SHIELD” with a full blackout mock drill tonight from 8:00 PM to 8:30 PM. Power will be restored immediately after the drill concludes.
Deputy Commissioner Virasa S. Tidke emphasized the importance of this drill in evaluating and strengthening the district’s emergency response capabilities.
He urged the public to voluntarily participate by turning off all lights during the designated time period.
Key Guidelines for Residents:
- A siren will sound before the blackout begins. Once heard, residents are expected to switch off their lights.
- Essential health services will remain operational without disruption.
- People are advised to stay indoors and avoid traveling during the blackout.
- Residents are requested to turn off inverters, generators, security camera lights, and street lights during the drill.
Purpose of the Drill:
The blackout is part of a coordinated effort to assess readiness and improve inter-agency coordination for emergencies.
