Amritsar (Punjab), May 31, 2025: In a major boost to aspiring scientists, Guru Nanak Dev University (GNDU), Amritsar, has opened admissions for its prestigious Five-Year Integrated M.Sc. (Hons. School) Programme in Chemistry. Designed to shape the next generation of chemical scientists, the course blends undergraduate and postgraduate learning with a strong research orientation.
Housed within GNDU’s Department of Chemistry—renowned for its academic excellence and cutting-edge research—the integrated programme offers students direct access to high-end instrumentation including 500 MHz and 400 MHz NMR spectrometers, X-ray diffractometers, UV-Vis spectrophotometers, cyclovoltammetry setups, and scanning electron microscopes. The university claims these facilities rival those of leading research institutions.
“Our goal is to offer not just education, but transformation,” said Prof. Palwinder Singh, Head and Dean of Academic Affairs of the University.
“From day one, students work alongside experienced researchers on real-world challenges, gaining insights that extend beyond textbooks.” he said.
He said that the department's faculty members are internationally recognized, with postdoctoral experience in countries such as Germany, USA, UK, Spain, Sweden, Canada, and South Korea.
Research specializations include nanomaterials, metal-organic frameworks, electrochemical sensors, asymmetric nanocatalysis, and computational chemistry.
Prof. Palwinder Singh said that the university chemistry students have consistently delivered top results in national-level exams like CSIR-NET, GATE, and IIT-JAM, often securing prestigious fellowships and placements in leading institutions in India and abroad.
He said that the graduate of the programme are well-equipped for dynamic careers across academia, pharmaceuticals, public sector undertakings, and global R&D laboratories.
Many alumni have gone on to pursue doctoral studies and occupy influential positions in both research and industry.Calling it “a launchpad for future innovators,” the university invites passionate students with a flair for science to explore this opportunity.
He said that the applications are now open. For eligibility and programme details, candidates are encouraged to visit the GNDU website.
