Congress Member of Parliament from Patiala has urged PM Modi to take immediate steps for the reopening of the Kartarpur Sahib Corridor, emphasizing its spiritual and emotional importance for millions of Sikh devotees.
The MP stated that the Kartarpur Corridor, which connects the Dera Baba Nanak shrine in Punjab to Gurdwara Darbar Sahib in Kartarpur (Pakistan), should remain a corridor of peace and faith, not a “casualty of politics or delay.”
“The Kartarpur Sahib Corridor holds immense emotional and spiritual value for Sikhs and Punjabis around the world. I respectfully request the Government of India to restore unhindered access for pilgrims at the earliest,” the MP said in an official statement.
Highlighting the sentiments of the Punjabi community, the parliamentarian noted that timely reopening would uphold the principles of religious freedom, cultural connection, and interfaith harmony that India proudly represents.
The corridor was inaugurated in November 2019 but has faced intermittent closures due to COVID-19 restrictions and diplomatic concerns. The call from the Patiala MP adds to the growing chorus from various sections of society demanding uninterrupted access to Kartarpur Sahib for Indian pilgrims.
