Ferozepur, July 2, 2025: In a shocking incident exposing loopholes in jail security, 12 grams of brown powder, suspected to be heroin, was recovered from an inmate at Ferozepur Central Jail during a meeting with his brother, from the shirt of the collar, handed over to him at the time of visitation.
As per the official report, during a routine check at the time of visitation on July 2, 2025, Jail Assistant Superintendent Tarsem Singh and his alert team recovered the contraband from inmate Lakhwinder Singh in the jail. The banned substance was cleverly hidden inside the collar of his shirt and was reportedly handed over by his brother Kuldeep Singh during the visitation – Mulaqat. This incident, perhaps for the first time surfaced, has once again raised concerns over the growing menace of drug smuggling inside jails using innovative methods. On July 2, consequently for the third day, the drug was recovered from the sole of the shoe of a PESCO employee, and now on the continuous fourth day, 12 gm the drug has been recovered, smuggled in the collar of the shirt.
Jail authorities need to immediately strengthen frisking measures and implement stricter monitoring during inmate visitations. Police have launched further investigations, through Gurdip Singh IO and further action against those involved is expected soon will be initiated accordingly.
