Chandigarh, July 7, 2025 – Punjab Congress president Amarinder Singh Raja Warring has strongly condemned the brutal daylight murder of prominent Abohar businessman Sanjay Verma, holding the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government responsible for the deteriorating law and order situation in the state.
Expressing condolences to the bereaved family, Warring said that both he and the Congress party stood in solidarity with them over their irreparable loss. He described the incident as yet another grim reminder of the terror being unleashed by gangsters in Punjab, adding that the public, especially the business community, is living under constant fear.
“This incident has deeply shaken the people of Punjab. According to reports, Verma was killed over a ransom demand, which shows how emboldened criminal elements have become under the present regime,” he said.
Blaming the AAP-led state government for “total collapse” of governance, Warring accused it of allowing gangsters to operate with impunity. “It’s a strange situation where the common man feels unsafe, while gangsters roam free without any fear of law. The government has failed in even providing basic security to its people,” he stated.
The PCC chief questioned Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann and Punjab DGP about the continued violence in the state, accusing them of inaction despite repeated warnings. “You have failed on all fronts. Even the minimum expectation of ensuring public safety has not been met,” he added.
Warring also visited Dr. Aniljit Singh Kambhoj in Moga, who recently survived a deadly attack just days before the Abohar killing. He said such repeated attacks point towards a rising climate of lawlessness in the state.
He revealed that he had received multiple calls from distressed businessmen across Punjab who no longer feel secure conducting business under the current regime. “We have long urged the government to crack down on such threats before the situation spirals out of control, but our concerns were ignored,” he said.
The Congress leader urged the Punjab government and police to adopt a policy of “zero tolerance” towards crime, warning that failure to act decisively could push the state towards complete anarchy.
