Excitement continues on the second day of the Trident Open, with local players Akshay Sharma and Manu Gandas in joint lead
Chandigarh, November 12, 2025: Local golfer Akshay Sharma produced a brilliant performance on Wednesday, carding a two-under 70 to take the joint lead with Manu Gandas. Both players now lead the inaugural edition of the ₹1 crore Trident Open with a combined score of five-under 139 after 36 holes.
The second round was abandoned at 5:40 p.m. on Wednesday due to inadequate light. Seven of the 123 players could not complete their second round. They will resume play at 6:50 a.m. on Thursday.
Bangladesh's Mohammad Somrat Sikder, who has played 16 holes in the second round so far, was at six-under when play was halted. He will have a chance to take the halfway lead on Thursday.
The title sponsor of the tournament is Mr. Rajinder Gupta, Chairman of the Trident Group and a Rajya Sabha MP. Headquartered in Ludhiana, the group is a leader in home textiles in India and globally.
Former India No. 1 junior Shubham Jaglan, who has been playing professional golf in the US this year and is making his PJTI debut this week, is tied for third at four-under 140 with Bangladesh's Badal Hossain, Mohammad Azhar, Shamim Khan, Shaurya Bhattacharya, and Manoj S.
Local player and PJTI rankings leader Yuvraj Sandhu made a strong comeback on the second day. After a 72 on the first day, he carded a 69 on Wednesday to reach a total of three-under 141. As things stand, the cut is likely to be at one-under 148.
Akshay Sharma's solid comeback: 35-year-old Akshay Sharma, who has won three professional titles, is looking for his first win on his home course. He started the day in style, making tap-in birdies on the second and third holes and adding another birdie on the 11th. Akshay, who is 20th on the PJTI Order of Merit with five top-10 finishes this season, made his only bogey of the day on the 13th hole.
