Chandigarh, December 6, 2025: Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Punjab MLA Inderbir Singh Nijjar has sharply criticised Congress leader Harak Singh Rawat for his derogatory “12 baj gaye” remark targeting a Sikh man during a political rally in Uttarakhand. Calling the comment “shameful, insensitive and unacceptable,” Nijjar said it exposes Congress’ “deep-rooted and recurring prejudice” against Sikhs.
Nijjar said that mocking someone’s religion, identity, appearance or faith is morally wrong and unbecoming of any responsible political leader. He added that Rawat’s statement is not an isolated incident but part of a long pattern of anti-Sikh actions by the Congress party.
He recalled several painful chapters from history, pointing out that Punjab bore the brunt of partition, losing vast regions and suffering enormous human tragedy.
He cited the ongoing disputes over Punjab’s river waters, the events leading to Operation Blue Star, and the 1984 Sikh genocide, where several Congress leaders were named but later given top positions within the party.
Nijjar said it was particularly unfortunate that such offensive remarks surfaced during the Shaheedi days of Sri Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji, a spiritual leader who sacrificed his life defending religious freedom. “Sikhs have always stood with the nation, but Congress has repeatedly stood against Sikhs,” he said.
The AAP MLA demanded that Congress issue an immediate apology to the Sikh community and take strict action against Harak Singh Rawat for his comments.
