Farmers hold rally in Ferozepur to honour martyrs of Delhi Agitation–II
Ferozepur, February 21, 2026: Acting on the call of the Kisan Mazdoor Morcha, hundreds of farmers, farm labourers and women activists from all zones of the Kisan Mazdoor Sangharsh Committee Punjab, Ferozepur district, organised a rally at the Cantonment Grain Market here to pay tribute to the martyrs of the farmers’ movement, including young farmer Shubhakaran Singh, who was killed during the Delhi Agitation–II.
During the rally, the participants also burnt an effigy of the Modi government in protest against the proposed India–US trade agreement. Addressing the gathering, state president Sukhwinder Singh Sabhra and district president Inderjit Singh Bath alleged that peaceful farmers and labourers heading towards Delhi were forcibly stopped at the borders due to heavy barricading by the Haryana government at the behest of the Centre. They claimed that the firing of bullets and the use of tear gas shells through drones amounted to crushing democracy and reflected the government’s pro-corporate stance.
The leaders further alleged that the India–US trade agreement would prove disastrous for farmers and labourers, accusing the Modi government of surrendering before American imperialism.
Farmer leaders Dharam Singh Sidhu, Gurmel Singh Fatehwal and Baljinder Singh Talwandi Nipalan said the sacrifices of the martyrs would not be allowed to go in vain. They demanded compensation for the damage to farmers’ belongings and alleged theft of trolleys after the Shambhu and Khanauri border protest sites were forcibly cleared.
Addressing the rally, Surjit Singh Fauji, Amandeep Singh Kachharbhann, Ranjit Singh Khachharwala and Harphool Singh Dulewala said the anti-people faces. They strongly opposed what they described as anti-farmer and anti-labour legislation, including the Seed Act 2025, Electricity Amendment Bill 2025, moves to scrap MGNREGA, and the implementation of four labour codes, asserting that these would not be allowed to be enforced at any cost.
Several other leaders, including Narinderpal Singh Jatala, Gurmel Singh Jia Bagga, Veer Singh Nizamdinwala, Gurnam Singh Alike, Makhan Singh Wara, Rashpal Singh Gatta Badshah, Balraj Singh Fero ke, Gurbaksh Singh Panjgrain, Gurbhej Singh, Avtar Singh Sabhuana, Lakhwinder Singh Vasti Namdev, Gurdial Singh, Amarjit Singh, Keval Singh Wahka and Avtar Singh Baggewala, also addressed the gathering.
