Ferozepur, February 26, 2026: People facing issues such as substance abuse, anxiety, examination stress, depression, financial stress, crisis situations, and family-related problems can now seek professional counselling over the phone through the Tele-MANAS toll-free helpline. This was stated by Civil Surgeon Dr Rajiv Parashar while addressing a meeting of all Senior Medical Officers and Programme Officers of the district.
Dr Parashar said that to promote awareness about mental health and strengthen mental well-being, the Government of India launched the Tele-MANAS project on October 10, 2022. Since its launch, the initiative has proved to be a boon in addressing mental health concerns. Tele-MANAS is a toll-free helpline that provides free mental health counselling round the clock, seven days a week, and is available in more than 20 languages.
He informed that anyone in need can access Tele-MANAS services by calling the toll-free numbers 14416 or 1800-891-4416. The identity and information of callers are kept completely confidential. Tele-MANAS also has its own mobile application for easy access.
Dr Parashar further stated that in Punjab alone, around 37,000 calls have been received and resolved through Tele-MANAS during the current year. Based on their specific mental health concerns, callers can connect with trained counsellors, social workers, and psychologists. If required, Tele-MANAS also facilitates in-person services, and information related to medication can be obtained through video calls.
He added that residents of Ferozepur district seeking more information about the Tele-MANAS project may contact the Psychiatry Department at the Civil Hospital Ferozepur.
