Sukhbir Badal rejects reconstituted SIT on ‘Saroops’ probe, alleges political vendetta

Chandigarh, February 26, 2026: The Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) on Wednesday rejected the reconstituted Special Investigation Team (SIT) formed by the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government to probe the issue of 328 unaccounted ‘Saroops’ of Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji, alleging that the new team was constituted after the previous SIT refused to follow “illegal directions” to implicate SAD president Sukhbir Singh Badal.
Reacting sharply, senior SAD leaders Maheshinder Singh Grewal and Parambans Singh Romana accused the AAP government of indulging in “cheap politics,” claiming that the primary objective of the SIT remained to target the SAD leadership under the pretext of investigating the unaccounted ‘swaroops’.

The leaders also questioned the inclusion of certain officers in the newly formed SIT, including its Chairman Nanak Singh, who they alleged was facing scrutiny in a separate matter, as well as Gurbans Singh Bains, whom they described as having a bias against the previous SAD government.
Further, the SAD leaders alleged that the state government had disregarded a directive from the Akal Takht Jathedar to appoint only ‘amritdhari’ officers to the SIT to ensure adherence to required religious maryada during the probe.
Warning SIT officials against any alleged misuse of authority, the SAD leaders said the Sikh community was closely monitoring the manner in which the investigation was being conducted.
They asserted that the ‘swaroops’ were not missing but had been dispatched to various ‘gurughars’, and maintained that the matter pertained to accounting procedures.
They added that any attempt to register “false cases” against the SAD leadership under the guise of investigation would be challenged legally, emphasizing that all individuals are equal before the law.
