PAU-KVK trains farmers and farm women in vocational training on “Beekeeping, Honey Processing and Marketing”
Ferozepur, March 10, 2026: PAU–Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), Ferozepur, organised a five-day vocational training programme on “Beekeeping, Honey Processing and Marketing” from March 2 to March 9, 2026. A total of 29 farmers and farm women from different villages of Ferozepur district participated in the training.
At the inaugural session, Dr Gurmail Singh Sandhu, Deputy Director of KVK Ferozepur, interacted with the trainees and highlighted the importance of beekeeping as a subsidiary occupation for farmers. He encouraged participants to adopt beekeeping on a small scale to meet household honey requirements and also motivated them to develop it as an income-generating enterprise. A pre-test was conducted at the beginning of the programme to assess the participants’ basic knowledge about beekeeping.
During the training, Dr Simranjit Kaur, Assistant Professor (Plant Protection), delivered lectures on various aspects of scientific beekeeping. She explained different species of honey bees, bee hive structure, seasonal management of colonies, management of insect pests and diseases affecting honey bees, and the equipment used in beekeeping. Practical demonstrations were also conducted to help trainees understand colony management, pest and disease control, and honey extraction techniques.
The programme also included special lectures by progressive beekeepers Lakhwinder Singh from Mallanwala and Rakesh from Mudki, who shared their experiences and success stories, motivating participants to adopt beekeeping as a profitable venture.
As part of the training, an exposure visit was organized to an Apis mellifera apiary of progressive beekeeper Gursewak Singh at village Golewala in Faridkot district. During the visit, participants received hands-on training and practical demonstrations on colony management and honey extraction.
Throughout the programme, trainees actively interacted with experts and discussed various technical and practical aspects of beekeeping, gaining valuable knowledge for adopting the activity on their farms.
