Chandigarh, March 22, 2026: Leaders of major opposition parties, including the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD), BJP and Congress, on Sunday staged a protest and gherao of the Chief Minister’s office in Chandigarh, demanding the immediate arrest of AAP minister Laljit Singh Bhullar in connection with the alleged suicide of Punjab Warehousing Corporation District Manager Dr Gagandeep Randhawa.

Senior leaders, including Punjab BJP president Sunil Jakhar, SAD leader Bikram Singh Majithia and Congress leader Partap Singh Bajwa, were present at the protest.
Addressing the media, Majithia alleged that the officer was driven to death due to “hooliganism, corruption and threats” by the minister, and accused the government of delaying action. He claimed that while an FIR was eventually registered in the early hours of March 22, it came only after sustained pressure from opposition leaders.
He further alleged that during the protest at the police station, power supply was cut to disrupt proceedings, and accused the administration of shielding the minister. Majithia also claimed that the police, under acting DGP Gaurav Yadav, was pressuring the victim’s family to reach a compromise instead of ensuring justice.

The SAD leader demanded immediate arrest of Bhullar and others named in the case, and called for a probe by the CBI. He also drew parallels with previous corruption cases, questioning the government’s intent.
Serious allegations were also raised regarding custodial harassment, with claims that the officer had been humiliated, assaulted and threatened, leading to extreme distress prior to his death.
Meanwhile, the deceased’s brother Varinder Pal Singh, who joined the protest, said the family would not perform the last rites until the accused are arrested. He demanded swift action from Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, stating that justice must be ensured without delay.

Several other opposition leaders, including Maheshinder Singh Grewal, Daljit Singh Cheema and Sharanjit Singh Dhillon, were also present during the protest.
