Elderly farmer shot dead in Tarn Taran village; Attackers caught on CCTV

Tarn Taran (Punjab), April 19, 2026: An elderly farmer was shot dead in Punjab’s Tarn Taran district, triggering panic in the area. The incident took place in Gandivind Dhattal village, where the victim, identified as 60-year-old Atma Singh, was allegedly lured out of his home and killed.
According to family members, Atma Singh was inside his house when two unidentified assailants arrived and called him outside. As he stepped near the gate, the attackers opened fire. One of the bullets reportedly struck him on the forehead, leading to his death on the spot.
The accused fled the scene on a motorcycle immediately after the shooting. Police have launched a search operation to trace the suspects.
CCTV footage from the area has surfaced, showing two motorcycle-borne individuals moving through the street and reportedly asking locals for directions before the attack. The footage is being examined as part of the investigation.
The deceased was a retired employee of Punjab Roadways and is survived by his wife, a daughter, and two sons.
Police officials said further investigation is underway, and efforts are being made to identify and apprehend the attackers.
