Bathinda (Punjab): A woman science teacher at a government senior secondary school in the Maur area of Bathinda district has alleged harassment and misconduct by a male colleague. Police have registered a case against the accused mathematics teacher and started an investigation.
According to the complainant, she has been working as a teacher since July 2018 and has been posted at a school in village Maur Khurd since June 2023. She stated that a committee had been formed to address issues with cupboards in the school’s science lab, in which both she and the accused teacher were members.
The teacher alleged that when she informed the accused about the faulty cupboards, he asked her to come to the lab to show the issue. She claimed that once inside the lab, he allegedly made inappropriate remarks and attempted to move closer to her. When she resisted, he allegedly grabbed her hand and behaved inappropriately.
She further alleged that the accused threatened her with serious consequences if she disclosed the incident. The complainant said she managed to leave the spot and later informed other staff members and her family.
Following the incident, her husband and father-in-law reached the school. The woman subsequently approached the Maur police station with her family and lodged a complaint. Police said a case has been registered and further investigation is underway.
