Haryana declares summer vacation in all state schools till this date
‘Shramdaan’ Made Mandatory
Chandigarh, May 20, 2026 — The Haryana government has announced summer vacations for all state schools from May 25 to June 30, alongside a series of major education reforms aimed at improving discipline, infrastructure, and learning outcomes.
The decision was taken by Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini during a high-level review meeting in Chandigarh, where he approved key recommendations from Education Minister Mahipal Dhanda.
As part of the reforms, the state has made “Shramdaan” (voluntary labour) mandatory in government schools to promote discipline, participation, and social responsibility among students.
The government also issued strict directions regulating mobile phone use in schools. Teachers will no longer be allowed to carry mobile phones inside classrooms, with devices to be deposited in the principal’s office during teaching hours to ensure an undistracted learning environment.
In a major parallel move, the Chief Minister launched 250 “Excellence and Early English Schools” across the state in the first phase under the 2026–27 education plan. These schools will follow a model similar to PM Excellence Schools, offering bilingual education in Hindi and English with upgraded infrastructure, smart classrooms, and improved teaching systems.
The government also directed urgent improvements in school infrastructure, including repair of dilapidated buildings, provision of drinking water and sanitation facilities, and maintenance of boundary walls. Officials have been instructed to prioritize construction in unsafe or unusable school buildings.
To strengthen accountability, the Chief Minister ordered strict action against officials submitting false reports regarding IT and smart classroom functionality. He also emphasized regular inspections, monthly School Management Committee meetings, and better monitoring through a dedicated portal.
Further measures include addressing teacher shortages through timely recruitment or temporary engagement of retired teachers, improving sports activities in schools, and increasing maintenance grants for primary students from ₹36 to ₹100.
The state government stated that these reforms aim to modernize school education, improve transparency, and ensure better academic outcomes across Haryana.
