Chandigarh, June 4, 2026: Former Deputy Director of the Enforcement Directorate (ED), Niranjan Singh, has written a fresh letter to the Union Finance Minister raising serious allegations regarding alleged interference in investigations related to drug cases, illicit liquor scams, and irrigation corruption cases.
In his communication, Singh has sought formal inquiries against former ED Director Sanjay Mishra and other officials, alleging that certain investigations were deliberately obstructed or weakened. He claimed that probes into drug trafficking cases involving senior police officers, alleged involvement of top IAS officers and ministers in an irrigation scam, and liquor scam-related cases were adversely affected.
Singh further stated that he had earlier written multiple letters to the Finance Ministry seeking action in these matters. According to him, the Ministry had responded through a letter dated February 27, 2025, informing him that inquiries would be initiated against the concerned officials.
However, he alleged that despite this assurance, no concrete action has been taken so far. He added that he has already sent three reminders to the Ministry urging the initiation and completion of investigations, as well as communication of the findings.
The former ED officer has warned that if no action is taken, he may be compelled to initiate further legal or administrative steps in the matter.
The allegations raise fresh questions regarding oversight and accountability in sensitive financial and corruption-related investigations.
