Punjab: Five prominent temples receive bomb threat

Chandigarh, June 4, 2026: Security agencies were put on high alert on Thursday after bomb threats were issued against five prominent temples in Punjab and the Punjab Civil Secretariat in Chandigarh through a threatening email.
According to officials, the email named five major temples—Durgiana Temple in Amritsar, Mukteshwar Temple, Devi Talab Temple in Jalandhar, Maiserkhana Temple in Bathinda and Kali Devi Temple in Patiala—as potential targets. The sender claimed that explosions would take place between 1:11 pm and 3:11 pm and also referred to the June 1984 military operation at the Golden Temple.
The Punjab Civil Secretariat in Chandigarh was also mentioned in the threat email. Following the alert, police, bomb disposal squads and other security agencies were immediately deployed at the identified locations.
Extensive search operations were carried out in and around the Secretariat and the temple premises. However, no suspicious object or explosive material was found during the initial checks.
Authorities have tightened security at sensitive locations while teams from the police and cyber cell have launched an investigation to trace the origin of the email. Officials are examining the email ID used to send the threat and are working to identify those responsible.
