Chandigarh, June 8, 2026: In a major push to improve urban sanitation across the state, Punjab Local Government Minister Harjot Singh Bains on Monday launched ‘Mission Clean Punjab’, a technology-driven cleanliness campaign that will require civic officials to conduct daily field inspections from 7 am to 8 am.
Launching the initiative at the department headquarters in Chandigarh, Bains reviewed the first day of the campaign through video calls with field officers and said the drive would be monitored through an AI-integrated mobile application, surprise inspections and weekly progress reviews.
Under the mission, every urban local body will be divided into 10-kilometre zones, with each zone placed under the supervision of senior officials, including Additional Deputy Commissioners (ADCs), Municipal Corporation Commissioners, Joint Commissioners and Executive Officers.
The minister said all supervisory officers would be required to visit their assigned areas every morning and submit daily reports on cleanliness and sanitation conditions.
Calling it a "daily war against dirt," Bains said the initiative is aimed at delivering visible improvements in sanitation across Punjab's cities and towns. He warned that officers must remain available for random inspections and video verification at any time.
“Any officer can receive a call from Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann or me at any time. Therefore, every officer must carry a smartphone with a working camera and internet connectivity,” Bains said.
The minister added that the AI-powered monitoring system would track real-time progress and ensure accountability at all levels. Surprise checks will be conducted without prior notice to verify on-ground performance.
Bains said the campaign has been launched on the directions of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann and aims to make cleanliness a daily administrative priority rather than a one-time exercise.
“From sanitation workers to municipal commissioners, everyone will be on the streets. The results should be visible to the public,” he said.
The Punjab Government expects the initiative to strengthen civic services and improve sanitation standards across urban areas through regular monitoring, technology-based oversight and field-level accountability.
