‘Wheat Fields of Punjab’ Presented to GOC XI Corps to Showcase State’s Agrarian Heritage to Armed Forces

Jalandhar Cantt, June 19, 2026: In a unique initiative aimed at strengthening the connection between Punjab’s rich agricultural legacy and the armed forces serving in the state, Punjab State Information Commissioner Harpreet Sandhu on Thursday presented his publication, “Wheat Fields of Punjab – The Spirit of Vaisakhi,” to General Officer Commanding (GOC), XI Corps, Lieutenant General Amit Kabthiya, at the headquarters of the XI Corps, widely known as the “Defenders of Punjab”.
The initiative seeks to acquaint Army personnel with Punjab’s agrarian heritage and the central role wheat cultivation plays in shaping the state’s identity, economy and cultural traditions.
The publication highlights Punjab’s vast wheat fields, diverse crop varieties, rural landscapes and the deep-rooted cultural, religious and ecological traditions associated with agriculture. It aims to provide members of the armed forces with a deeper understanding of the region they serve and the historical bond between Punjab’s people and their land.
Speaking on the occasion, Lieutenant General Amit Kabthiya appreciated the efforts of Harpreet Sandhu in authoring a publication that celebrates Punjab’s agricultural heritage and cultural ethos. He noted that the book serves as a valuable resource in understanding the traditions and values that have shaped the state over generations.
The GOC also acknowledged that the publication, prepared under the patronage of the Punjab Governor and released in Chandigarh, reflects a meaningful effort to preserve and promote Punjab’s heritage for future generations.
Harpreet Sandhu said the book has been conceived as a tribute to Punjab’s farmers, rural life and enduring cultural legacy. He added that through vivid visuals and narratives, the publication captures the beauty of Punjab’s golden wheat fields, natural heritage, folk traditions and spiritual landscape.
“The objective is to help readers, including Army personnel, develop a deeper appreciation of Punjab’s agrarian roots and the values that continue to define the state’s identity,” Sandhu said.
He further stated that the publication combines literary narratives with visual documentation to present a comprehensive portrait of Punjab’s agricultural wealth, cultural vibrancy and ecological richness.
The book also underscores the significant contribution of agriculture to Punjab’s socio-economic development and highlights the harmonious relationship between the state’s culture, nature and society.
Described as a tribute to Punjab’s glorious legacy, “Wheat Fields of Punjab – The Spirit of Vaisakhi” seeks to preserve and celebrate the spirit of the land that has long been known as the food bowl of India.
