CEO Anindita Mitra reviews SIR preparations with political parties; 86.02% voters mapped ahead of door-to-door enumeration

Chandigarh, June 23, 2026: Punjab Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) Anindita Mitra on Tuesday held a meeting with representatives of recognised political parties to review preparations for the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) 2026, under which house-to-house enumeration of voters will begin across the state from June 25.
During the meeting, Mitra briefed political parties about the distribution, filling and collection of enumeration forms by Booth Level Officers (BLOs) during the month-long exercise.

She said that as per the schedule announced by the Election Commission of India, the door-to-door enumeration drive will continue from June 25 to July 24, 2026. A total of 24,453 BLOs will visit households across Punjab to reach out to over 2.14 crore voters as part of the revision exercise.
86.02% Voters Already Mapped
The Chief Electoral Officer informed party representatives that 86.02 per cent of voters in Punjab have already been mapped. She also shared the latest list of unmapped voters with political parties and sought their cooperation in identifying and verifying the remaining electors.
Mitra urged all political parties to actively participate in the Special Intensive Revision process and assist election officials in ensuring that no eligible voter is left out of the electoral rolls.
She emphasized that the support of political parties would be crucial in helping election staff complete the mapping of remaining voters and ensuring the success of the exercise.
Key Dates Announced
The CEO said the rationalisation of polling stations will continue until July 24, 2026, while the draft electoral rolls will be published on August 3, 2026.
Voters and political parties will be able to file claims and objections regarding the draft rolls from August 3 to September 2, 2026. The disposal of claims and objections will be carried out between August 3 and September 28, 2026.
The final electoral rolls will be published on October 1, 2026, she added.
Political Parties Raise Concerns
During the meeting, representatives of various political parties also raised concerns and queries regarding the Special Intensive Revision process, which were addressed by election officials.
Among those present were Additional Chief Electoral Officer Amandeep Garg, Joint Chief Electoral Officer Navneet Kaur Bal, and representatives from recognised political parties, including Ferry Sofat from the Aam Aadmi Party, Jaswant Rai and Harbhajan Singh from the Bahujan Samaj Party, Parampal Kaur from the Bharatiya Janata Party, Hardeep Singh Kingra and Happy Khera from the Congress Party, and Advocate Arshdeep Singh Kler and Nachhattar Singh Gill from the Shiromani Akali Dal.
The meeting forms part of the Election Commission’s efforts to ensure transparency, accuracy and broad stakeholder participation in the preparation of updated electoral rolls ahead of future elections.
