Chandigarh, July 10, 2026: Punjab Finance and Planning Minister Harpal Singh Cheema on Friday directed officials to fast-track works under the Rangla Punjab Vikas Scheme, setting strict deadlines for the completion of ongoing projects and warning that there would be no compromise on quality.
Chairing a high-level review meeting at the Mahatma Gandhi State Institute of Public Administration (MAGSIPA), Cheema instructed heads of departments and Deputy Commissioners (DCs) to closely monitor the progress of development works and ensure their timely execution.
Reviewing the first two phases of the scheme alongside Punjab Chief Secretary K.A.P. Sinha and Additional Chief Secretary Jaspreet Talwar, the Finance Minister fixed July 31 as the deadline for completing all Phase-I projects and August 31 for Phase-II projects.
Cheema also directed all Deputy Commissioners to identify and prepare a list of Phase-III development works that can be launched by August 15, with the aim of maintaining momentum in infrastructure development across the state.
Emphasising accountability, the Finance Minister said projects must be completed within the stipulated timelines without compromising construction quality or transparency.
Chief Secretary K.A.P. Sinha instructed Deputy Commissioners to ensure that authenticated photographs of completed projects are uploaded directly from the field as proof of quality and completion. He warned that officials found negligent or responsible for substandard work would face strict administrative action. He also directed Additional Deputy Commissioners (Development) to supervise all works under the scheme.
Additional Chief Secretary Jaspreet Talwar asked Deputy Commissioners to assign constituency-wise monitoring responsibilities to Sub-Divisional Magistrates (SDMs) and ensure regular field inspections to verify the pace and quality of development works.
During the meeting, Deputy Commissioners from across Punjab presented district-wise progress reports, shared strategies to expedite project implementation and suggested measures to improve execution and monitoring of the scheme.
The state government said the intensified monitoring mechanism is aimed at ensuring timely delivery of infrastructure projects and strengthening accountability at every level of implementation under the Rangla Punjab Vikas Scheme.
