Veteran Athlete, 104, and wife, 100 join SIR voter drive in Ferozepur
Ferozepur, July 11, 2026: As part of the Election Commission of India's Special Intensive Revision (SIR) campaign, the SVEEP team in Ferozepur has intensified voter awareness activities across schools to encourage citizens to participate in the ongoing enumeration process for updating electoral rolls.
Acting on the directions of District Election Officer-cum-Deputy Commissioner, Deep Shikha Sharma, the SVEEP team visited various schools in the district to educate teachers, staff members and the public about the objectives and procedures of the Special Intensive Revision campaign aimed at making electoral rolls more accurate, transparent and up to date.
District SVEEP Nodal Officer Dr. Satinder Singh, Deputy District Education Officer (Secondary), Ferozepur, said the campaign has been receiving an enthusiastic response from the public. He noted that eligible citizens are actively filling out enumeration forms to ensure that their voter details are accurate and updated, thereby strengthening the democratic process.
During the awareness programmes, participants raised several queries regarding the SIR campaign and the enumeration forms. Most questions related to voter registration for family members living or studying abroad, documents required for inclusion in the electoral roll, the procedure for new voter registration and correction of voter details. The SVEEP team provided detailed clarifications and advised eligible citizens to contact their respective Booth Level Officers (BLOs) or follow the prescribed procedure to update their information.
In a heartening example of democratic participation, the SVEEP team also filled the enumeration forms of 104-year-old veteran athlete Jagtar Singh and his 100-year-old wife at their residence in Canal Colony, Ferozepur. The inspiring couple conveyed the message that every eligible citizen has an important role in democracy and that age is never a barrier to exercising democratic rights.
Dr. Satinder Singh appealed to all district residents to actively participate in the Special Intensive Revision campaign by submitting their enumeration forms on time, providing the required documents and encouraging eligible family members and neighbours to do the same, ensuring that the electoral rolls remain complete, accurate and updated.
Among those present were Sarabjit Singh Bhawra, Ishwar Sharma (Media Coordinator), Lakhwinder Singh (SVEEP Coordinator), Vidya Shankar Bharti (BLO), Ravinder Singh (Assistant Coordinator), besides teachers and other dignitaries from various schools.
