Chandigarh, July 28, 2026: Rajya Sabha MP and noted environmentalist Sant Balbir Singh Seechewal has requested the Punjab Police to withdraw his government security and deploy the personnel to strengthen law and order duties across the state.
In a letter addressed to Punjab Director General of Police (DGP) Gaurav Yadav, Seechewal sought the immediate withdrawal of the six police personnel assigned to his security and asked that they be posted at police stations where their services are needed the most.
Citing the recent rise in incidents of robbery and crime in several parts of Punjab, particularly in Sultanpur Lodhi, the Rajya Sabha member said the available police force should be prioritised for protecting the general public rather than public representatives like himself.
Seechewal stated that deploying the security personnel to maintain law and order and serve citizens would be in the larger public interest. He urged the DGP to reassign the officers to areas facing greater policing requirements.
Sant Balbir Singh Seechewal has been a member of the Rajya Sabha since July 2022 and is widely recognised for his work in environmental conservation, river rejuvenation and social service.
His decision to relinquish government security is being seen as a call for prioritising public safety and making better use of police resources amid law and order challenges in the state.
