The first phase of Punjab’s Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls has been successfully completed in Sri Muktsar Sahib district, with an impressive 94.04 per cent of the district’s electorate covered during the House-to-House Enumeration exercise.
The district has digitised Enumeration Forms of 6,52,609 out of 6,93,936 registered electors, marking a major milestone in the electoral roll revision exercise being conducted under the directions of the Election Commission of India.
District Election Officer-cum-Deputy Commissioner Amit Kumar Panchal, IAS, said the House-to-House Enumeration phase was completed on August 3, with the district’s election machinery working intensively to meet the target.

17,157 Deceased, 16,126 Permanently Shifted
The district administration said that Enumeration Forms of 41,327 electors have not been received.
A substantial number of these cases have been attributed to electors who are no longer available at their registered addresses. The data shows that 17,157 electors have died, while 16,126 have permanently shifted to other cities or places.
The remaining cases will be dealt with as part of the subsequent stages of the SIR process.
Next Big Deadline: August 13
The administration has now shifted its focus to the publication of the draft electoral roll on August 13, 2026.
Copies of the draft roll will be supplied to all recognised political parties and will also be available at the District Election Office, offices of the Electoral Registration Officers (EROs) and with Booth Level Officers (BLOs).
The District Election Officer has made it clear that voters whose names are missing from the draft roll will still have an opportunity to seek inclusion.
“Any eligible voter whose name is not found in the draft electoral roll should not panic. The claims window will remain open for 30 days, from August 13 to September 12.”
Eligible persons can submit Form 6 before the concerned ERO or Booth Level Officer during this period.
24,397 Unmapped Voters to Get Notices
A key challenge entering the next phase will be the 24,397 unmapped electors identified in the district.
The administration will begin issuing notices to these electors from August 13.
Those receiving notices will be able to respond by submitting any one of the 12 documents prescribed by the Election Commission of India, including documents such as a birth certificate or educational qualification certificate.
After examining the documents and hearing the concerned electors, the EROs will pass appropriate orders.
“The next phase is equally important. Every eligible elector must be given an opportunity to establish their eligibility and ensure that no genuine voter is left out of the electoral roll.”
Final Electoral Roll on October 12
The entire process will culminate with the final publication of the electoral roll on October 12, 2026.
The administration has urged electors to carefully check the draft roll once it is published and promptly approach the election authorities if their names are missing or if any correction is required.
Muktsar Gets 7 More Polling stations
Alongside the SIR exercise, polling station rationalisation has also resulted in an increase in the number of polling stations across the district.
The number of polling stations has risen from 753 to 760, with seven new polling stations added in accordance with the Election Commission’s directions.
The expanded polling infrastructure is expected to facilitate smoother access for electors during future electoral processes.
753 BLOs lead the ground operation
The first phase was completed through an extensive field operation involving:
- 753 Booth Level Officers (BLOs)
- 82 Supervisors
- 28 Assistant Electoral Registration Officers (AEROs)
- 4 Electoral Registration Officers (EROs)
- Other election officials and field staff
The District Election Officer praised the teams for working continuously to complete the enumeration exercise.
