Determination, versatility and a positive approach to life have been the defining features of Deepanjot Kaur Sidhu’s journey, a journey that has now reached another important milestone with her promotion as Assistant Director Fisheries and posting at Mansa.
Promoted from her position as Senior Fisheries Officer, Bathinda, Sidhu brings with her more than 13 years of experience in the Punjab Fisheries Department, having joined the department as a Fisheries Officer in March 2013.
But her story goes well beyond professional achievements.
Known for her hard work, cheerful disposition, positive vibes and approachable personality, Sidhu represents a fine blend of professional commitment and an active, vibrant personality. An academically strong foundation
Her educational journey began at Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya, where she developed a foundation of discipline and all-round development.
She went on to complete her B.Sc. in Botany, Zoology and Biotechnology from ICG College, University of Rajasthan, followed by an M.Sc. in Biotechnology from Banasthali University, Rajasthan. She also holds a B.Ed. from DGCE Badal, Punjab University.
Her Father Gursewak Singh Sidhu is Retd Commissioner Navodaya Vidhyalaya Samiti and Mother Surinder Pal Kaur Retd Deouty Commissioner NVS.
Her academic background in biological sciences and biotechnology has complemented her professional association with the fisheries sector, while her continuous pursuit of learning reflects her commitment to personal and professional growth.
A Rashtrapati Guide with a spirit of leadership
One of the notable highlights of Sidhu’s youth was her achievement as a Rashtrapati Guide with The Bharat Scouts & Guides an accomplishment associated with discipline, leadership, teamwork and service.
Her personality also found expression on the sports field. She was the runner-up in an inter-collegiate Table Tennis tournament, demonstrating her competitive spirit and commitment to excellence beyond academics.
Taking Punjabi folk culture to the international stage
Perhaps one of the most colourful chapters of her journey has been her association with Punjabi folk culture.
Sidhu secured first positions in Zonal and Inter-Zonal Youth Festivals in Folk Dance Sammi, earning recognition for her cultural talent.
Her passion for folk traditions eventually took her beyond the country's borders. She participated in the prestigious Llangollen International Musical Eisteddfod in Wales, UK, showcasing Sammi and other folk performances on an international platform.
For Sidhu, the journey from the cultural stage to the administrative arena has been marked by the same qualities confidence, discipline, teamwork and a willingness to take on new challenges.
