Chandigarh, September 27, 2026: Confusion over whether Punjab will observe a government holiday on September 28 has been circulating on social media, with a purported government letter claiming that offices, educational institutions and other government establishments will remain closed on Monday.
However, the claim that the September 28 holiday has not been announced by the Punjab government is false.
According to the Punjab Government’s official 2026 holiday calendar, September 28 is listed as the birth anniversary of Shaheed Bhagat Singh and is marked as a holiday.
Reports also confirm that government offices and educational institutions across Punjab will remain closed on September 28 to mark Bhagat Singh’s birth anniversary. Therefore, September 28, 2026, is a government holiday in Punjab.
The viral letter circulating on social media should not be confused with the official holiday notification/calendar.
