Chandigarh, October 9, 2026: Jagtar Singh Hawara, who is lodged in Delhi’s Tihar Jail in connection with the assassination of former Punjab Chief Minister Beant Singh, has agreed to accept one-day parole to meet his elderly and ailing mother.
The development was confirmed by Gurcharan Singh Hawara, his spiritual father and a leader of the Qaumi Insaaf Morcha.
Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann had earlier recommended 10-day parole for Hawara to visit his native village and meet his mother. However, the proposal reportedly could not be finalised due to security and other technical considerations.
Gurcharan Singh said that, given the deteriorating health of Hawara’s mother, the family and the coordination committee of the Qaumi Insaaf Morcha urged him to agree to a one-day parole, following which he gave his consent.
According to Gurcharan Singh, Hawara may get around seven to eight hours to meet his mother and other family members, excluding the time required for travel between Delhi and Punjab. The administration has reportedly assured the necessary transportation and security arrangements.
However, Gurcharan Singh clarified that the agreement has so far been verbal. No written parole order has been issued, and the date of the proposed visit has not yet been finalised.
The family hopes the meeting will take place once the necessary legal formalities are completed.
