PAU marks International Women's Day 2025 with powerful message of equality and action
MP, Sanjiv Arora Gifts Indian Constitution to Distinguished Women Achievers

Ludhiana (Punjab), March 8, 2025:Punjab Agricultural University (PAU), Ludhiana, hosted a grand celebration of International Women's Day 2025 at PAL Auditorium. The event honored women's contributions across various fields and reinforced the call for gender equality and empowerment.
A key highlight was Chief Guest Sh. Sanjeev Arora,Member of Parliament, Rajya Sabha, gifting the Indian Constitution to distinguished women achievers, emphasizing the power of constitutional rights in empowering women.
Addressing the gathering, Sanjeev Arora lauded the pivotal role of women in shaping a progressive society and humorously noted that while roadsides often display boards stating "Men at Work," there should be signs everywhere acknowledging that women are tirelessly working across all fields.

He highlighted that gifting the Indian Constitution was the most meaningful tribute, ensuring women know their legal rights and entitlements. He cited compelling statistics, noting that Indian women constitute 30.69% of the armed forces, 15% of the global aviation workforce, and 29% of civil services and medical professionals, with 80% in nursing and nearly 100% in social health services.
PAU Vice-Chancellor Dr. Satbir Singh Gosal reaffirmed the university's leadership in championing gender equality in agriculture. He highlighted how women-led agribusinesses, precision farming, and agricultural research are reshaping the sector, which men once dominated.

"A nation cannot succeed if its women are left behind," he asserted, calling for a shift from celebration to action in securing equal opportunities for women in research, education, and leadership.
The guest of Honour, Sh. Harpreet Singh Sandhu, State Information Commissioner of Punjab, echoed these sentiments, calling women the backbone of civilization. He commended Sh. Arora's vision of gifting the Indian Constitution, describing it as an empowering resource for every woman.
Jitendra Jorwal, IAS, Deputy Commissioner, Ludhiana, compared the Indian Constitution to a necklace with multi-colored beads, symbolizing India's unity in diversity. He urged that every day should be Women's Day and stressed that women's contributions must be fully utilized for India to achieve its developmental goals.
Adding an artistic touch, Sh. Gurlovleen Singh Sidhu, IAS, recited a poetic tribute to womanhood, celebrating their resilience and achievements. Dr. Simranjeet Kaur Gill, Dean of Academics at CT University, delivered an insightful presentation on women's rights and legal protections, shedding light on the challenges and progress in gender justice.
The event also honoured distinguished women teachers, lecturers, doctors, and PAU officers for their outstanding contributions. The ceremony began with releasing a special Women's Day poster reflecting the theme "Accelerate Action for Gender Equality."
Earlier, Dr. Nirmal Jaura, Director, Students' Welfare, welcomed the dignitaries and guests and shared personal reflections on women's invaluable role in homes, workplaces, and society.

A symbolic presentation of the Indian Constitution was made to dignitaries on stage, including Dr. Satbir Singh Gosal, PAU Vice-Chancellor; DC Mr. Jitendra Jorwal, IAS; District Education Officer; State Information Commissioner, Mr. Harpreet Sandhu; and Mrs. Harwant Kaur Khush, a visionary leader and wife of legendary scientist Dr. Gurdev Singh Khush.
The principals of Meritorious Students School and Government Senior Secondary School, Ludhiana, Smt. Satwant Kaur and Smt. Veenu Adya, were also honoured.
The event concluded with a felicitation of the Chief Guest and other dignitaries, followed by a vote of thanks by Dr. Charanjit Singh Aulakh, Dean, College of Agriculture, PAU, who reaffirmed PAU's commitment to advancing women's empowerment through education, research, and leadership.
The event, coordinated by Dr. Vishal Bector, underscored the significance of knowledge, constitutional awareness, and action in accelerating women's progress.
