Chandigarh, April 1, 2025: Panjab University has announced enhanced security measures requiring all students, staff, and authorized personnel to carry and visibly display their ID cards at all times within the university premises, effective April 2, 2025.
The decision has been taken following a murder of student at a concert of Masoom Sharma, aiming to restrict unauthorized entry and ensure a safer campus environment.
Key Highlights of the Directive:
- Entry Ban for Outsiders: Unauthorized individuals will be barred from entering the university's Sector 14 and 25 campuses.
- Strict ID Enforcement: ID cards must be worn prominently throughout the day, with random checks at gates and buildings.
- Security Vigilance: Increased monitoring of vehicles and pedestrians at all entry points to deter unlawful access.
Registrar Prof. Y.P. Verma stated that the measure is critical to maintaining order and preventing security breaches following recent incidents. The order has been disseminated to department heads, hostel wardens, and security teams for immediate action.
