Dr. Harminder Singh Khokhar assumes charge as Director, Public Relations of Punjabi University

Patiala (Punjab), December 28, 2025: Dr. Jagdeep Singh Vice-Chancellor of Punjabi University has appointed Dr. Harminder Singh Khokhar, a senior university officer and former officer of Indian Information Service (IIS-98 Batch) as Director Public Relations of the University.
On the occassion of Dr. Khokhar assuming charge, Vice-Chancellor Dr. Jagdeep Singh, Dean Academic Affairs Prof. Jaswinder Singh Brar and Registrar Prof. Davinderpal Singh Sidhu personally visited to extend their congratulations.
Dr. Khokhar has 32 years of experience in the field of journalism and mass communication. He started his professional career in 1993 with the Punjabi weekly newspaper 'Khokhar Di Awaaz', where he served as editor, printer and publisher.
In 1998, after being selected by the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) for the Indian Information Service (IIS), he also rendered his services at the Press Information Bureau (Government of India).
Dr. Khokhar joined Punjabi University in 2001 as Assistant Public Relations Officer. After getting promotion, he has been serving as Public Relations Officer since 2014. In 2022, considering his seniority, the university also appointed him as In-Charge of the University Science Instrumentation Centre (USIC).
Dr. Khokhar completed his early education from Government High School, Gandhi Nagar, Patiala, followed by B.A. (Hons.) and M.A. (History) from Government Mohindra College, Patiala. Subsequently, he obtained a Bachelor of Laws (LL.B.) degree from Punjabi University, Patiala.
He pursued higher education in the subject of journalism & mass communication from various reputed universities of northern India, earning a Master of Journalism and Mass Communication (MJMC) from Guru Jambheshwar University of Science & Technology, Hisar; Master of Philosophy (M.Phil.) from Chaudhary Devi Lal University, Sirsa and Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) from Himachal Pradesh University, Shimla.
While congratulating and extending best wishes to him, the Vice-Chancellor Dr. Jagdeep Singh expressed hope that Punjabi University will certainly benefit from Dr. Khokhar's vast experience. The institutions always require the leadership of capable and experienced officers to progress, and it is essential to have competent officers in key positions, he added.
