National Webinar on ‘Future of Mother Tongue in Digital Age’ held to Mark International Mother Language Day
Ferozepur, February 20, 2026: A national webinar dedicated to International Mother Language Day on the theme “Future of the Mother Tongue in the Digital Age was organized by Tte Post Graduate Punjabi Department of the Dev Samaj College for Women. The event highlighted the growing relevance of Punjabi and other mother languages in the era of rapidly advancing digital technology.
The keynote address was delivered by Dr. Harjinder Singh, Assistant Professor, Punjabi and Dogri Department, Central University of Himachal Pradesh, Dharamshala. He elaborated on the historical importance of International Mother Language Day and discussed the current status and future direction of world languages. He emphasized that social media, e-books, blogging, and online platforms are powerful tools for the preservation and promotion of mother tongues in the digital age. He also encouraged students to actively write, read, and create digital content in Punjabi.
The college Principal, Dr. Sangeeta, formally welcomed the keynote speaker and stated that the mother tongue is the sweetest and most intimate language, learned naturally from one’s mother. She observed that despite rapid technological growth, the importance of the mother tongue has increased further in the digital era, as creative expression in one’s native language carries its own unique cultural and intellectual value, even in times dominated by artificial intelligence.
