‘Ghich Pich’: Ankur Singla’s Poignant Father-Son Drama Set in Chandigarh to Release August 1
Chandigarh, July 17, 2025 –
After a rousing world premiere at the Cinevesture International Film Festival (CIFF) and an impressive 9.7 IMDb rating, Ghich Pich, a heartfelt coming-of-age film by debutant filmmaker and tech-entrepreneur Ankur Singla, is all set to release across Indian cinemas on August 1, 2025.
Set in late-1990s Chandigarh, Ghich Pich explores the emotional struggles of three teenage boys dealing with friendship, rebellion, and fraught relationships with their fathers. Deeply nostalgic, the film paints the city of Chandigarh as a living, breathing character—capturing its iconic locations from Capitol Complex to Sukhna Lake and the famed ‘gehri route’.
“Ghich Pich is my love letter to Chandigarh and the boys I grew up with,” said Ankur Singla, who left behind a successful legal and startup career to pursue filmmaking. “It’s about the quiet emotional storms teenagers—especially boys—carry while growing up in rigid parenting systems.”
The film stars Shhivam Kakar (Flames, Indoo Ki Jawani), Kabir Nanda, Aryan Rana, and marks the final screen appearance of Nitesh Pandey, remembered for Khosla Ka Ghosla and Om Shanti Om. Geeta Agrawal Sharma (Laapataa Ladies, 12th Fail) and Satyajit Sharma (Made in Heaven, Balika Vadhu) also feature in pivotal roles.
Highlights:
-
Title Meaning: Ghich Pich is a Hindi colloquial term for mental or emotional turmoil—aptly capturing the film’s central theme.
-
Exploring Father-Son Dynamics: The story sheds light on intergenerational conflict, emotional disconnect, and patriarchal expectations—rarely addressed with such nuance in Indian cinema.
-
Final Role of Nitesh Pandey: The actor plays an emotionally mature father—an exception in the era of strict, disciplinarian parenting.
-
Music and Crew: The music is composed by Rohit Sharma (Kashmir Files, Aspirants), with lyrics by Shellee (Dev D, Manmarziyaan). Ritwik De scores the background music. Editing is by Syed Mubashshir Ali, known for Squeaky Shoes and Dhai Aakhar.
From Courtrooms to Cinema
An alumnus of National Law School, Bengaluru, and founder of a successful Sequoia-backed startup later acquired by Amazon, Ankur Singla now heads Barsaati Films, a Delhi-based indie production house. Ghich Pich marks his transition from tech visionary to heartfelt storyteller.
Release
Ghich Pich will hit theatres nationwide on August 1, 2025. With its powerful storytelling, emotional depth, and rich setting, the film is poised to resonate with audiences across generations—and may well become a modern indie classic.
