Chandigarh, October 18, 2026: Punjabi actor and producer Neeru Bajwa has announced that the screening of her film Thapi has been put on hold in view of the prevailing situation in Punjab.
In a social media post, Bajwa said the film would no longer be screened in cinemas in India or abroad from October 19 until further notice.
“Nothing is bigger than Punjab for us,” Bajwa said, emphasising that Punjab, its people and its culture come first.
She said the film was made to bring excitement back to Punjab’s fields and entertain audiences. However, given the current circumstances, she and the film’s team felt it was not appropriate to continue screening it.
Bajwa said cinema was meant to entertain people but could not take precedence over the sentiments of the public or the situation in the state. She added that the peace, happiness and safety of Punjab and its people were the team’s priority.
‘We will always stand with Punjab’
Reaffirming her support for the state, Bajwa said she and her team would stand with Punjab until the situation improved.
“We were with Punjab earlier, we are with Punjab today and we will always be with Punjab in the future,” she said.
The film’s screening has been suspended for the time being. No fresh release or screening date has been announced, and a decision on its return to cinemas will be taken after the situation improves.
