Attempt to damage Dr BR Ambedkar statue in Hoshiarpur; ETO orders swift probe, action

Chandigarh, September 16, 2026: Punjab Cabinet Minister Harbhajan Singh ETO has condemned an alleged attempt to damage the statue of Dr BR Ambedkar at Barian Kalan village in Hoshiarpur district and directed the police to investigate the incident and take action against those responsible.
ETO said anti-social elements attempting to disturb peace and social harmony in Punjab would be dealt with strictly.
“Baba Sahib Dr BR Ambedkar is a source of inspiration for all of us. He gave the country its Constitution and ensured equal rights for every citizen,” ETO said.
He described the incident as an attempt by certain elements to disturb law and order and said such acts would not be tolerated.
The minister said police authorities had been directed to immediately investigate the incident and arrest the accused at the earliest. He added that strict action would be taken against those found responsible in accordance with law.
ETO also appealed to people to maintain peace and communal harmony, assuring them that the government was committed to protecting the dignity of every citizen and honouring national leaders.
He further said that the influence or status of the accused would not affect the police action and that those responsible would be brought to justice in accordance with law.
