Fazilka, August 6, 2026: The Special Intensive Revision (SIR)-2026 of electoral rolls has entered a crucial phase in Fazilka district, with 93.06 per cent of the electorate already covered through digitisation of Enumeration Forms, District Election Officer-cum-Deputy Commissioner Amarpreet Kaur Sandhu said on Thursday.
The Deputy Commissioner made the announcement while chairing a meeting with representatives of all recognised political parties to review the progress of the SIR exercise and discuss the roadmap for publication of the draft and final electoral rolls.
According to the district administration, out of 7,76,163 registered electors, Enumeration Forms of 7,22,295 voters have already been received and digitised. Forms of 53,868 electors remain unreceived.
Of the unreceived forms, officials reported that 23,091 electors have died, while 21,427 electors have permanently shifted to other cities or places, making them unavailable for the ongoing enumeration exercise.
“93% Coverage Marks Major Progress”
Chairing the review meeting, Deputy Commissioner Amarpreet Kaur Sandhu said the district administration was working to ensure that the SIR process was completed in accordance with the directions of the Chief Electoral Officer, Punjab.
“The SIR process is progressing satisfactorily in Fazilka, with 93.06 per cent of the electors already covered through digitisation of Enumeration Forms. The remaining cases are being dealt with systematically so that the revision process is completed smoothly, accurately and transparently.”
She urged representatives of all recognised political parties to continue extending their cooperation during the remaining stages of the revision.
Draft Roll on August 13; Claims Open for 30 Days
A major milestone in the exercise will come on August 13, 2026, when the Draft Electoral Roll is scheduled to be published.
Electors who find that their names are missing from the draft roll will have 30 days—from August 13 to September 12—to submit claims by filing Form 6 before the concerned Electoral Registration Officer (ERO) or Booth Level Officer (BLO).
Copies of the draft electoral roll will also be supplied to all recognised political parties. The roll will be available at the District Election Office, ERO offices and with Booth Level Officers for public verification.
30,531 Unmapped Voters to Get Notices
The administration has also identified 30,531 electors whose votes remain unmapped. Notices to these electors will be issued from August 13.
Those receiving notices will be able to respond by submitting any one of the 12 documents prescribed by the Election Commission of India. These may include documents such as a birth certificate or educational qualification certificate, among the other admissible documents.
After examining the documents and hearing the concerned electors, the ERO/AERO will pass appropriate orders.
The entire process will culminate in the final publication of the electoral roll on October 12, 2026.
Polling Booths Increase from 829 to 898
The SIR exercise has also coincided with rationalisation of polling stations in the district.
Fazilka previously had 829 polling booths. Following rationalisation carried out under the directions of the Election Commission of India, 69 additional polling booths have been added, taking the total to 898 polling booths.
The revised number of polling stations has received approval from the Election Commission of India, New Delhi.
“Political Parties’ Cooperation Crucial”
The District Election Officer appealed to representatives of all political parties to remain actively involved in the process and provide full cooperation during the remaining stages of SIR.
“The participation and cooperation of recognised political parties is vital for ensuring an accurate and transparent electoral roll. We appeal to all political parties to continue supporting the administration so that every eligible elector gets due opportunity to be included in the electoral roll.”
The meeting was attended by Additional Deputy Commissioner (General) Dr. Mandeep Kaur, Additional Deputy Commissioner (Development) Jagwinderjit Singh, SDM Fazilka Jagraj Singh and Tehsildar Elections Vibhu Jain, besides representatives of recognised political parties.
