Punjab police team attacked during encounter with Gangster associates; Four injured in cross-firing

Tarn Taran (Punjab), May 13, 2026: A police team from Punjab Police came under attack during an operation in Tarn Taran after two motorcycle-borne assailants allegedly opened fire on officers at the site of an ongoing encounter involving gangster associates.
According to police sources, the team from Valtoha Police Station was already engaged in a cross-firing incident with two alleged associates of a gangster, identified as Akashdeep and Sunny, when the fresh attack took place.
During the initial exchange of fire, Akashdeep and Sunny sustained bullet injuries to their legs.
Police said that while officers were still present at the encounter site, two motorcycle riders, allegedly sent by the mastermind gangster, arrived near the scene and opened fire on the police team.
The police personnel immediately retaliated and chased the attackers, leading to another exchange of fire. Both suspects were later apprehended.
The attackers, identified as Sunny and Sukhwinder, sustained multiple bullet injuries during the cross-firing and were rushed to a hospital for treatment.
Police officials said further investigation is underway to establish the role of the accused and identify the gangster behind the attack. Additional details regarding the operation are awaited.
