Chandigarh, February 16, 2022: A group of members of the Kirti Kisan Forum (KKF), which held a meeting here in Chandigarh on Wednesday, has appealed to the people of Punjab including all the Kisan Unions, to wholeheartedly support the Sanyukt Samaj Morcha.
After a historic victory at the Singhu borders, it is time to repeat the same feat in the Punjab Vidhan Sabha elections by voting the SSM to power as it would be in the interest of the State.
In a statement released here today, members said that it was a need of the hour to join hands in support of the SSM to save the state from politicians, who have been looting the state for the past many years.
“All Punjabis should unite and vote against the forces that have ruined Punjab over the years”, said that statement.
Among those who attended the meeting were former IAS officer M.S.Chahal, Swarn Singh Boparai, J.S. Kesar, former IPS officer G.S. Pandher, former IAS officer, Kulbir Singh Sidhu, G.K. Singh, Harkesh Singh Sidhu, former Army officers including Brig Harwant Singh, Brig Inder Mohan Singh, Col Harkirat Singh, former IRB officer Vikram Bajwa, former Excise and Taxation Officer Jarnail Singh, and Sucha Singh Somal, an NRI.
With their firm faith in the democratic system, values, and peaceful modes of protest, farmers have brought glory to the state by getting the 3 agriculture laws repealed without resorting to any violence and running the agitation with great sagacity for more than a year.
“Because of the historic victory on the Delhi borders, every Punjabi has been holding his head high”, said the statement. “History would never forgive us in case we fumbled at this crucial hour of electing our representatives”, it added.
The Kisan Andolan had set new milestones. Transcending the narrow social divisions, it brought all sections of the society on one platform and gave them the courage to raise their voice against what they felt is unjust and not in the interest of the people. It strengthened democracy and people's trust in peaceful means of protest. It kindled a new hope among deprived and distressed people.
To keep the same spirit long-lasting, all should come together to make Punjab, a better state free from all ills including mafia, corruption, and political loot. By electing honest and committed people, many problems of the state could be solved without much effort.
“Our Punjab’s destiny is in our hands. Our vote would decide its future. Hence, it is important that we make the right choices. As we have tried and tested leaders, who fought for us on the Delhi borders, it is the right time to further strengthen their hands by voting them to power for the betterment of the state”, the statement said.
The historians and other thinkers are intensely keeping an eye on the Punjab elections. They are watching the developments in the farmers’ movement carefully. It is unfortunate that the Kisan Unions have not shown the same unity and zeal with which
