Chandigarh, June 4, 2022: Bir Devinder Singh, former Deputy Speaker of Punjab Vidhan Sabha opposed the suggestion of renowned Punjab Agricultural Economist and Padma Bhushan winner Sardara Singh Johal of fielding slain Punjabi singer Sidhu Moosewala's father Balkaur Singh in the upcoming Sangrur by-poll.
Bir Devinder said that the suggestion made by Dr. SS Johal sounds utterly atrocious.
"The ill-conceived suggestion of Dr. SS Johal, former Vice-Chancellor and the quick endorsement of the half-baked idea of Dr. Johal by PCC President Amarinder Raja Warring, to field Sidhu Moosewala’s father Balkaur Singh as consensus candidate for the Sangrur Lok Sabha by-election, sounds utterly atrocious. Nothing could be more indecent and painful than such a suggestion in the given situation. It could only be described as the manifestation of sublime stupidity and the illustration of the misplaced nuance of political philosophy; that lacks rationale and political wisdom. No sane person could come up to make such an inappropriate and absurd suggestion to the inconsolable family, that too, at a time when they are miserably shattered and grieving for the unfathomable loss of their only son," stated Bir Devinder Singh.
"No political party or individual should even try or assume to take political advantage out of the gruesome tragedy of Sidhu Moosewala ‘s family. Although there could be no immediate closure to the wails of the family, the crazy politicians of all shades could wait and allow the tormented family a reasonable time-space to come to terms, to accept the truth of the unparalleled catastrophe. It is seeming;y an unpardonable transgression to drag the family of Sidhu Moosewala, in to any political controversy, while they are still sitting on Saf-E-Matam (A mat on which the family members and close relations of the dead person sit to accept condolences) and passing through the gloomy period of mourning the tragic death of their only son. It is too early to discuss politics or political nuance with the family that stands thoroughly ravaged. I wonder which culture or sagacity permits such an unkind transgression into the solemnity of pain in the family. The political parties should rather respect and understand the gravity of the pain the family is enduring, rather than callously looking for political dividends out of the devastation of the family," he added.
