93 % of Haryana's sitting MLAs are crorepatis; 12 have criminal cases: Report

Chandigarh, September 3, 2024: Out of 87 sitting MLAs in the Haryana Legislative Assembly, 81 i.e 93 % are crorepatis while 12 sitting MLAs face criminal cases against them, revealed a report jointly released by Association for Democratic Reforms (ADR) and Haryana Election Watch.
The ADR report that analyzed criminal, financial, and other background details of 87 sitting MLAs stated that while 12 MLAs have declared criminal cases against themselves, 6 MLAs face serious criminal cases.
"3 (7%) out of 41 MLAs from BJP, 4 (14%) out of 29 MLAs from INC, 1 (10%) out of 10 MLAs from Jannayak Janta Party, 1 (100%) MLA from INLD, 1 (100%) MLA from Haryana Lokhit Party and 2 (40%) out of 5 Independent MLAs have declared criminal cases against themselves in their affidavits," stated ADR report.
Among 6 MLAs that have serious criminal charges, four are from the Indian National Congress (INC), 1 from the Haryana Lokhit Party, and 1 Independent.
Crorepatis (Assets more than 1 crore)
The report analyzed sitting MLA's assets in Haryana. Out of Out of 87 sitting MLAs analyzed, 81 (93%) are crorepatis. The majority of Crorepati MLAs are the BJP, 38 out 41 MLAs of the BJP are crorepatis

"38 (93%) out of 41 MLAs from BJP, 27 (93%) out of 29 MLAs from INC, 10 (100%) MLAs from Jannayak Janta Party, 1 (100%) MLA from INLD, 1 (100%) MLA from Haryana Lokhit Party and 4 (80%) out of 5 Independent MLAs have declared assets valued more than Rs 1 crore,"
The elections in Haryana will be held in a single phase on October 5, and the counting of votes will happen on October 8.
Notably, the Election Commission of India (ECI) on August 31, revised the polling day for Haryana Assembly polls from October 1 to October 5, this year, as well as moved the counting of votes for both Jammu and Kashmir and Haryana assemblies from October 4 to October 8
