Team Chandar triumphs in 32nd Kabaddi Cup; Speaker Sandhwan announces cash prizes
Ferozepur, September 11, 2024: The 32nd Kabaddi Cup was organized by the Baba Chandar Pir Ji Mela Committee in the village of Chandar, Ferozepur, with 32 teams from various regions participating. Punjab Vidhan Sabha Speaker, Kultar Singh Sandhwan, attended as the chief guest and announced separate cash prizes of Rs 21,000 each for the organizing committee and the winning team.
During the event, Speaker Sandhwan expressed his delight in witnessing the kabaddi matches and praised the efforts of the committee for promoting the sport, which he described as the pride of Punjab. He emphasized that Punjab’s kabaddi players are renowned worldwide and encouraged other youths to take inspiration and engage in sports. He highlighted the Punjab government's initiatives, such as the "Khedan Watan Punjab Diyan" project, aimed at connecting more youth to sports, now in its third season.
Speaker Sandhwan further motivated the youth by announcing an additional cash prize of Rs. 21,000 for the winning team, to be presented in the Punjab Vidhan Sabha to inspire others. He also promised to address the villagers' request for a road from Ghumiaran to Chandar, assuring that efforts will be made to secure the halted budget from the central government for its construction.
The Kabaddi Cup featured matches between various teams, culminating in a final between Team Chandar and Team Surewala, with Team Chandar emerging victorious. The winning team was awarded Rs. 31,000 and a trophy, while the runner-up team received Rs. 21,000 and a trophy.
The event was attended by several dignitaries, including District Planning Board Chairman Ferozepur Chand Singh Gill, AAP District President Dr. Malkit Thind, District Planning Board Faridkot Chairman Sukhjeet Singh, PRO Manpreet Dhaliwal, AAP leaders Robby Sandhu and Beant Singh, along with members of the Baba Chandar Pir Ji Mela Committee and villagers.
