28th Purewal Games: Wrestlers from India, Iran, Canada, and Brazil shine
Vinesh Phogat to receive Gold Medal and Golden Crown in Chandigarh

Mukandpur (Nawanshahr), February 28, 2025 – The second day of the 28th Purewal Games saw intense wrestling battles as renowned wrestlers competed for seven prestigious titles. Participants included top athletes from different parts of India, along with international wrestlers from Iran, Canada, and Brazil.
The wrestling competitions, organized by the Purewal Brothers and Purewal Sports Club, were held at the Indoor Multipurpose Hall of Amardeep Shergill Memorial College, Mukandpur, under the supervision of former Chief Coach of India, PR Sondhi.

200 Wrestlers, Seven Titles at Stake
Around 200 wrestlers fought for glory in various categories, including:
- Mahabharat Kesari (Men & Women)
- Sher-e-Hind
- Aftab-e-Hind
- Sitar-e-Hind
- Mahabharat Kumari
- Punjab Kumar
Vinesh Phogat to be Honoured with Gold Medal & Golden Gurj
Sports writer Principal Sarwan Singh announced that, in celebration of the Paris Olympics, Indian wrestling star Vinesh Phogat will be honored for her Khel Ratna achievement. She will receive a 23-gram pure gold medal and a golden Gurj.
Chief organizer Gurjit Singh Purewal stated that since Vinesh Phogat was unable to attend due to prior commitments, the award will now be presented in Chandigarh in the coming days.
Cash Prizes & Delayed Kabaddi Matches
Winners of the seven wrestling titles received cash prizes exceeding ₹10 lakh, a Gurj, and almonds as part of their honors. Meanwhile, Kabaddi Open matches were postponed due to rain.
