Toronto, Canada, February 28, 2025 – Ontario Premier Doug Ford has declared victory in the provincial election, securing a rare third consecutive term for his Progressive Conservative Party with a commanding 43% of the vote, according to projections by the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation (CBC).
In his victory speech, Ford emphasized unity and his commitment to protecting Ontario’s economy amid global uncertainties.
“As we face the threat of Donald Trump’s tariffs, I will work with every level of government, across all political stripes, to stand up for Canada. Defending our economy requires a full Team Ontario effort,” he said.
The former U.S. president has proposed 25% tariffs on goods from Canada and Mexico, a move that could significantly impact Ontario’s manufacturing sector, which relies heavily on exports to the U.S.
Ford had called the election over a year ahead of schedule, aiming to strengthen his mandate amid growing economic concerns.
