Ludhiana Rural Police solves Lakhe Wale jewelry shop firing case
Main accused arrested after brief encounter

Jagraon (Punjab), March 16, 2025: In a swift and strategic operation, the Ludhiana Rural Police on Sunday arrested the prime suspect involved in the firing incident outside the Lakhe Wale Jewellers showroom near Rani Jhansi Chowk, Jagraon (Ludhiana).
The arrest came after a brief encounter in which the accused sustained a gunshot wound to his leg.
The accused has been identified as Amrit Singh alias Labha, a resident of Malsian Wali Basti, Zira (District Ferozepur). The police recovered a .32 bore pistol, two live cartridges, and a motorcycle from his possession.
Encounter and Arrest
SSP Ludhiana Rural Dr. Ankur Gupta detailed that since the March 5 incident, police teams had been tracking the accused. An intelligence-based operation, jointly conducted by the CIA Ludhiana Rural and AGTF, led to his location being traced near Jagraon-Sidhwan Bet Road.
When the police attempted to apprehend him, Amrit Singh attempted to flee and fired three shots at the police party, one of which struck a police vehicle. Fortunately, no officers were injured.
In self-defense, the police retaliated, injuring the accused in his right leg before successfully arresting him. He was taken to a local civil hospital, where his condition remains stable.
Legal Action and Government Commitment
A case has been registered under Sections 125, 61 BNS, and 25 of the Arms Act at City Jagraon Police Station.
SSP Ankur Gupta emphasized that Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann is committed to ensuring public safety and that stringent action will be taken against anti-social elements to maintain law and order in the state.
