WAR AGAINST DRUGS : Ferozepur Police demolish house of absconding drug peddler
Ferozepur, March 16, 2025: In a decisive action under the ‘War Against Drugs’ campaign, the Ferozepur Police and District Administration demolished the house of an absconding drug peddler facing three criminal cases. The crackdown took place in Jhuge Hazara village, where the accused had illegally constructed a house and encroached upon one acre of Forest Department land.
Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Bhupinder Singh Sidhu identified the accused as Gurcharan Singh, who is facing charges in three cases, who built the unauthorized structure in an area under the jurisdiction of Sadar Police Station. He was sentenced for 15 years imprisonment on recovery of 25 kg heroin. He was on bail after 7 years in jail. He was wanted in another case but absconding. A JCB machine was deployed to raze the illegal house, and authorities confirmed that steps are being taken to reclaim the encroached forest land.
The SSP emphasized that the action was carried out on the directives of Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann and Director General of Police (DGP) Gaurav Yadav. He stated that several drug smugglers have already been arrested under this ongoing campaign and warned that similar actions will continue against those involved in the drug trade.
"Drug dealers must abandon this illicit activity, or they will face strict legal action. Properties acquired through illegal means will either be confiscated or demolished," he warned.
A large crowd of villagers gathered to witness the demolition and lauded the government’s firm stance against drug peddlers. Expressing hope for a drug-free Punjab, they welcomed the initiative and urged continued efforts to eradicate the menace.
