New Delhi, March 17, 2025 – Union Minister for Agriculture and Rural Development Shivraj Singh Chouhan met with Bill Gates of the Gates Foundation at Krishi Bhavan, New Delhi.
The two leaders engaged in a meaningful discussion on various topics related to agriculture, food security, rural development, women's empowerment, and technological advancements.
Shivraj Singh Chouhan emphasized India’s commitment to working with the Gates Foundation and global partners to uplift the world’s poorest and most underdeveloped regions.He highlighted India's leadership in agricultural research and innovation, which, according to Bill Gates, has the potential to benefit the entire world.
The minister expressed gratitude for the Gates Foundation’s support and stressed the vast opportunities for collaboration, particularly in digital agriculture, artificial intelligence, biotechnology, and climate-resilient farming.
He also praised India’s ‘Livelihood Mission’ as a movement for women’s empowerment, transforming millions of lives and creating ‘Lakhpati Didis’—women entrepreneurs achieving financial independence. During the discussion, Bill Gates acknowledged India's advanced agricultural research and its potential global impact.
Chouhan reiterated India’s philosophy of "Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam" (the world is one family) and expressed optimism about leveraging innovation and technology to create a hunger-free, inclusive, and empowered world.
The meeting also covered key topics such as increasing agricultural productivity, expanding digital agriculture, precision farming, nutrition security, inclusive livelihood programs, and global agricultural cooperation. Both sides reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening partnerships.
Senior officials from the Ministry of Agriculture, Ministry of Rural Development, ICAR, and representatives from the Gates Foundation, including Hari Menon and Alkesh Advani, were also present at the meeting.
