Panic in Gurdaspur village as unidentified gunmen open fire outside Sarpanch’s house

Gurdaspur (Punjab), April 5, 2025: A wave of panic spread through Waraich village in Gurdaspur after two unidentified men on a motorcycle opened fire outside the house of retired ETO and current Sarpanch, Sukhdeep Singh, on Saturday in broad daylight.
According to eyewitnesses, the two assailants entered the premises of the house under Kahnuwan Police Station limits.
One of the masked men reportedly opened fire after stepping inside the main gate. A few moments later, the attackers returned to the house and fired a second shot before fleeing the scene.
At the time of the incident, Sarpanch Sukhdeep Singh was not present at home. Sources say the gunmen shouted threats directed at the sarpanch’s son, who currently resides in Canada, warning that he would be killed if he returned to India.
The incident has sparked fear among locals, raising serious questions about law and order in the area.
Senior police officials rushed to the scene and have launched an investigation. Forensic teams are also expected to assist in collecting evidence as the hunt for the shooters continues.
Police have not ruled out the possibility of gang-related intimidation or targeted threats, and further details are awaited.
