Stray Dog Menace in Jalandhar: 6-year-old mauled outside home, CCTV captures brutal attack

Jalandhar (Punjab), April 5, 2025: The growing threat of stray dogs in Jalandhar has once again come to light after a 6-year-old boy was viciously attacked by a stray dog in Tower Enclave under Wadala Chowk area. The horrifying incident was caught on CCTV and has left the local community shaken.
The injured child has been identified as Sarthik, son of Devnath Bhatia. According to eyewitnesses and CCTV footage, the child was standing outside in the street when a stray dog suddenly charged at him and launched a brutal attack.
In a desperate attempt to escape, the boy ran towards a nearby house gate but was overpowered and dragged down by the dog, which continued to maul him mercilessly.Hearing the child’s screams, nearby residents rushed to the spot and managed to free him from the dog’s grip.
He sustained deep injuries on his arm, reportedly more than an inch deep, and was immediately rushed to the Civil Hospital, where he was administered tetanus and rabies vaccines.
The boy’s father expressed deep concern, saying, “Children can’t be stopped from playing in the streets, but the increasing danger from stray dogs is alarming. My son has been left traumatized and hasn’t spoken since the incident.”
Hospital officials confirmed that around 50 dog bite cases are being reported daily, reflecting the severity of the stray dog crisis in the city.Residents are now urging the municipal authorities to take swift and effective action before more such incidents occur.
