SSP's surprise visit exposes ‘Drug Den’ in Rai Sikh Bhawan at Ferozepur
Ferozepur, April 6, 2025: In an unanticipated move, Ferozepur Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Bhupinder Singh conducted a surprise inspection of the neglected Rai Sikh Bhawan near Basti Sheikh Wali. Disguised in plain clothes and without a security detail or official vehicle, the SSP aimed to assess the ground situation firsthand.
The building, which was constructed in 2010 at a cost of ₹2 crore to support the welfare of the Rai Sikh community, now lies in shambles. Once a hub of activity, it has tragically devolved into a gathering spot for drug users. During his visit, SSP Bhupinder Singh witnessed firsthand the grim reality of addicts occupying the ruins. Broken doors, missing grills, and dislodged tiles stand as stark reminders of years of neglect and mismanagement.
The SSP acknowledged receiving numerous complaints regarding the misuse of the premises. He pledged to take strict action against drug traffickers while focusing on rehabilitating addicted youths. His proactive approach has brought much-needed attention to the site and reignited hopes for reclaiming the building from criminal elements.
Local residents believe that the Rai Sikh community should collaborate with the administration in combating the drug menace. They have suggested transforming the Bhawan into a center for literary and cultural activities, thereby restoring its original purpose and positively engaging the youth.
The SSP’s visit has not only spotlighted the urgent need for intervention but also renewed discussions on law enforcement and community participation to address the drug crisis in the region.
