Faridkot, April 25, 2025: While the Punjab Government has already taken strong measures to dismantle the drug supply chain by arresting drug traffickers, it is also launching large-scale awareness campaigns to educate the public against drug abuse. As part of this initiative, the district administration of Faridkot organised a district-level awareness event titled "War Against Drugs" at Dashmesh Dental College.
The event saw participation from Punjab Vidhan Sabha Speaker Kultar Singh Sandhwan, MLA Faridkot Gurditt Singh Sekhon, Deputy Commissioner Poonamdeep Kaur, SSP Dr. Pragya Jain, and a large number of residents, institutional leaders, students, and teachers.
In his address, Speaker Sandhwan emphasised that drugs are corroding our society and youth like termites. He stated that the Punjab Government is dealing strictly with drug traffickers and that no leniency will be shown. He highlighted that strict legal action is being taken and added that this social evil can only be eradicated through awareness. He also mentioned that the teachings of Gurbani can guide us in this mission. Sandhwan urged people from all sections of society to unite and take a strong stand against this menace.
In his address, MLA Gurdit Singh Sekhon said that such events not only make us more aware personally, but also inspire others to stay away from drugs. He stressed that the youth are our real asset, and every effort must be made to protect them. He added that the anti-drug campaign will be further strengthened.
Earlier, the event began with the lighting of the ceremonial lamp by Speaker Sandhwan, MLA Sekhon, Deputy Commissioner Madam Poonamdeep Kaur, SSP Dr. Pragya Jain, and members of the college committee. The program started with a spiritual hymn “Deh Shiva Bar Mohe”.
On this occasion, DPRO Amrik Singh led the attendees in taking a pledge to stay away from drugs. A play titled "Navi Zindagi" (New Life), was powerfully presented by the Lok Bhalai Welfare Society from Barnala to spread the message against drug abuse. Students from Dashmesh Dental College and Dashmesh College of Nursing also performed awareness skits highlighting the harms of drug addiction.
Later, the college management and District Administration honoured Speaker Kultar Singh Sandhwan, MLA Gurdit Singh Sekhon, DC Poonamdeep Kaur, SSP Dr. Pragya Jain, and international shooter Sift Kaur Samra.
