Mohali (Punjab), May 17, 2025: Chandigarh University, ranked as the country's leading private university, has terminated all academic partnerships with 23 universities in Turkey and Azerbaijan in response to their support for Pakistan during Operation Sindoor—India’s anti-terror operation targeting cross-border threats.
The announcement was made by Member of Parliament (Rajya Sabha) and Chancellor of Chandigarh University, S. Satnam Singh Sandhu, who emphasized that national interest supersedes all international collaborations.
“No alliance with those who support Pakistan, a known sponsor of terrorism, is acceptable. When it comes to India’s integrity and sovereignty, we will not compromise,” said Sandhu.
The decision includes the immediate cancellation of student and faculty exchange programs, joint research projects, dual degree programs, and all MoUs with Turkish and Azerbaijani institutions.
Sandhu said this action aligns with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s strong stance against terrorism, and that it is the duty of every Indian institution to stand with the nation during such times.
“As our soldiers risk their lives defending the nation, we too must contribute. Our stance is clear—we will not associate with any institution that undermines India’s sovereignty,” he stated.
The Chancellor further urged Indian students to avoid pursuing education in countries like Turkey and Azerbaijan, instead opting for nations aligned with India’s values and global outlook.
